South Africa win final toss

Paris - South Africa on Monday won the toss for the World Cup final against England which takes place at the Stade de France here on Saturday.The toss gives South Africa the right to choose changing rooms at the ground as well as choice over final training times at the stadium.

France won a similar toss for the third-place play-off against Argentina at the Parc des Princes on Friday.

England are favourites - White

Paris - South Africa coach Jake White defied the bookmakers by proclaiming England the Rugby World Cup final favourite even though the defending champion lost Josh Lewsey with a hamstring injury.

Abendanon joins England

New Man: Nick Abendanon replaces Josh Lewsey

Bath star Nick Abendanon has been called into England’s World Cup squad as a replacement for the injured Josh Lewsey.

Abendanon flew out to Paris on Monday evening to join the England squad just five days before they tackle South Africa in the World Cup Final.

Bryan Habana, the South African player with the best try-scoring strike rate, has once again dismissed talk of his individual achievements ahead of the World Cup Final against England in Paris on Saturday.

The 24-year-old Springbok flyer, who has equalled Jonah Lomu’s World Cup record with his two-try effort in the Boks’ 37-13 semi-final victory over Argentina at the weekend, said his only real goal is for the team to win gold in the Final against England.

Those nine o’clock kick-offs really do test the reserves and, for any of you travelling to Paris this weekend, it is essential that the stomach is well lined and you peak at the right time. And pack a medical kit for Sunday.
